An Indian national and his local accomplice, who were allegedly found in possession of 13 grammes of cocaine and 31 ecstasy tablets, have appeared in court seeking bail.

Lambat Suhail (26) and Courage Damson (30) were initially remanded in custody following their court appearance on Saturday.

They returned to court today before Harare Regional Magistrate, Mr Francis Mapfumo, to apply for bail.

Prosecutor, Ms Heather Muokoto, led evidence from Detective Assistant Inspector Zindoga, the investigating officer, who opposed bail.

During cross – examination, Suhail, through his lawyer, denied possessing the drugs.

He alleged that Cecilia Chimbiri, planted the cocaine at his car dealership in Mabelreign to frame him.

Suhail claimed that Chimbiri had previously given him silver bullets and sex-enhancing pills, and he reported her to her husband, triggering tension between them.

He further alleged that Chimbiri, whom he knows well, sent him threatening WhatsApp messages, claiming she was well-connected and vowing to make him pay for exposing her.

Suhail also accused the police of colluding with Chimbiri and planting the drugs at his office.

According to the State, on September 18, 2025, detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics unit in Harare received a tip-off that the accused were dealing in cocaine at Suhail’s car dealership, located at 13 Suffolk Road, Strathaven, Harare.

Acting on the information, the detectives conducted a raid at around 7 pm. They found the two accused seated in a wooden cabin that was being used as an office at the premises.

Suhail was seated behind his office desk, while Damson sat on the opposite side. During the search, detectives recovered two sachets of suspected cocaine and a sachet containing 31 pink ecstasy tablets inside an open Winston Tobacco metal case on the desk.

Additionally, three more sachets of suspected cocaine were found in the right pocket of Suhail’s black tracksuit bottoms.

He was also found with a gold nugget worth US$100. The two were immediately arrested and charged with unlawful possession of drugs and possession of gold without a licence.

The bail hearing continues.
