The Indian Women’s Association (IWA) on Wednesday donated goods worth $7 500 that are expected to keep 150 children at five children’s homes warm during the winter season.

The donation is part of the association’s winter warmth charity drive, aimed at alleviating poverty and supporting vulnerable children in Zimbabwe.

The goods were distributed to Harare Children’s Home, Kasipiti Children’s Home, Lord’s Orphans Care, Rose of Sharon Zimbabwe and Tariro Children’s Village.

The association’s president, Madam Ambassador Mrs Shraddha Prajapati expressed her appreciation for the ladies’ efforts in supporting needy people.

“The IWA ladies are making a positive impact in Zimbabwe through their consistent and collective efforts, no matter how small, and I am thrilled to see their dedication and commitment to this cause,” she said.

“This effort also fosters cultural exchange between Indian and Zimbabwean communities.”

The association’s secretary, Mrs Nalini Devchand, highlighted the organisation’s motto and her long-standing role in the provision of donations.

“As the IWA secretary for the past 30 years, I am proud that we have made a meaningful donation to children’s homes, aligning with our motto to bring smiles to children,” she said.

“We observe the challenges faced by children in these homes and strive to make a positive impact on their lives and the broader social environment.”

She emphasised the importance of children and highlighted the organisation’s charitable efforts, including a recent donation.

“Children are our most valuable assets, and our association remains committed to supporting them through initiatives like the Winter Warmth Charity Drive, building on 30 years of poverty alleviation efforts in Zimbabwe.”

Tariro Children’s Home director Ms Pheobeline Magama expressed gratitude for being selected to receive donations all the way from Kadoma.

“The IWA’s donation will go a long way in addressing shortages of essentials like blankets and food, and will bring joy to the children, especially during this winter season,” she said.

“The donation will enable them to access basics, highlighting the organisation’s care and compassion.”

Harare Children’s Home director Mrs Mariah Sithole said IWA has facilitated access to better health care for children.

“The organisation’s generous support has enabled us to provide better healthcare for the children in our care, making a significant difference in their overall well-being and quality of life.

“We are truly thankful for their kindness and commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children in our community,” she said.
