Speaking during the National Day of Prayer organised by ACCZ and attended by various indigenous Zion and apostolic sects, some of the bishops said Zimbabweans had a chance to assert control over their resources by voting for President Mugabe.

Bishop Lyphet Matenda of Zion Christian Church-Kumuka Kuvakafa said President Mugabe and his party were heading for victory owing to their people-oriented programmes.
“I have only one wish that we pray for our President (Mugabe) and Zanu-PF so that they continue to implement people-oriented programmes. Zimbabweans have a perfect opportunity to assert control over their resources by voting Zanu-PF and President Mugabe,” said Bishop Matenda.
ACCZ president Reverend Johannes Ndanga said churches were the light of the world hence they should lead the way in supporting a Government and a national leader whose policies resonated with the wishes and aspirations of the majority.
“The inclusive government is no longer working and what we want now as indigenous churches are elections that will enable us to choose a leader who has got the interests of ordinary Zimbabweans at heart.
“We have a leader and a party that has a good track record of fighting for the cause of the majority of Zimbabweans,” he said.
Speaking at the same event, Masvingo Governor and Resident Minister Titus Maluleke said churches were supposed to closely work with Government to engender socio-economic development in an environment of peace and harmony.
