INDUNA High School pulled a shocker when they defeated tournament favourites Mpopoma High School in the final of the Boys’ Under-15 Bulawayo Provincial Championships that was played at Gifford High School on Monday.

Induna defied the odds to beat Mpopoma 4-2 on penalties after the match had ended one all in regulation time.

Their victory meant that they will now represent Bulawayo Province at the national finals which get underway on Thursday in Goromonzi.

Chenjerai Mutsungi, who is the head coach of Induna was pleased with how his boys played against a strong opponent in Mpopoma. He said they will be looking at perfecting some grey areas in preparation for the national finals.

“I am so proud of my boys, they are just small boys who have passion for football so I’m just happy that they managed to show what they are capable of doing. I told them that if you win you are winning for yourselves not for me and they managed to do it against Mpopoma, a powerhouse.

“I really want to thank them for what they did today, this is the first time that they qualify for the nationals. We have to keep on training so that we go there prepared, we just want to perfect the grey areas that we saw, this is an experience and I’m sure we will learn,” said Mutsungi.

Last year, Induna lost in the semi-finals and this year they managed to get past Mzilikazi High School in the last four on their way to the final. They beat Mzilikazi 4-2 on penalties as well after a goalless stalemate. They also beat Luveve High School
