Bulawayo’s dance scene is about to heat up as the Inferno Dance Competition prepares to showcase young talent on December 6. Organisers say the event will give up-and-coming dancers a platform to “ignite their flame”, with the venue to be announced soon.

Elemento Sloan, one of the organisers, said the competition is inspired by the belief that every dancer carries an inner fire.
“The inspiration behind the Inferno Dance Competition comes from the idea that every dancer has a burning passion, a hunger to express themselves, and a desire to rise above limits. The name Inferno represents intensity, creativity, and unstoppable energy,” Sloan said.

“We wanted to create a platform where dancers can unleash that flame without fear, without boundaries, and without holding back. Inferno is about raw emotion, powerful storytelling, and the courage to step into the spotlight with everything you’ve got.
“It’s not just a competition, it’s a movement that celebrates the heat, the heart, and the passion of dance.”

Sloan said Inferno stands apart from typical contests.
“Inferno is not just a stage, it’s an experience. Most dance competitions focus only on judging routines, but Inferno is built around performance, creativity, and atmosphere. We bring a level of intensity, energy, and production that makes every dancer feel like they’re part of something bigger.
“We’re also looking at expanding it into an international competition in the near future.”

Participants will be judged on creativity, musicality, synchronisation, execution, performance quality, choreography, and technique. Organisers expect around 40 dancers to compete in the inaugural edition.

Sloan said the competition aims to give local dancers broader exposure.
“I hope this competition gets dancers noticed globally and internationally, especially as it grows. We want Zimbabwean talent to shine on the world stage,” he said.

Organisers are confident that Inferno will become an annual highlight on Zimbabwe’s dance calendar, establishing itself as one of the country’s premier showcases for raw talent, creativity, and performance excellence.
