THE Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, on Thursday met Bulawayo-based creatives and independent content producers during the ZBC Content and Channels Strategic Workshop, as Government committed US$10 million towards local content development.
The engagement focused on strengthening collaboration between the national broadcaster and creatives in the Matabeleland region, as ZBC charts a new programming strategy aimed at expanding heritage-based and locally produced content.
The funding is expected to significantly uplift production standards, empower local producers and create opportunities across the creative value chain, particularly for filmmakers, musicians and content creators in Bulawayo.
Dr Muswere said the initiative is a key pillar under the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) 2026–2030, which prioritises growth of the digital economy, youth empowerment and job creation.
He also highlighted plans to establish production hubs in all 10 provinces, a move intended to decentralise content creation and ensure wider national representation, while positioning cities such as Bulawayo as active production centres.
The Minister further revealed that Government and ZBC are working on a roadmap to introduce new specialised sports and community channels, as part of efforts to diversify programming and respond to audience needs.
The strategic workshop marked a renewed push to position ZBC as a catalyst for national development while providing sustainable platforms for Zimbabwean creatives.
