adminDeputy Prime Minister Professor Arthur Mutambara said ministries under the Infrastructure Cluster in the inclusive Government were conducting the audit, which was now 60 percent through and would be concluded in the first half of next year.
The infrastructure being audited includes dams, buildings and roads as well as rail networks.
DPM Mutambara said an infrastructure master plan would be produced after the audit.
“The audit will determine where we are as a country in terms of infrastructure,” he said.
“This will then be compared with the country’s desired level and vision. Only 40 percent of the work is left,” he said.
The infrastructure cluster includes the ministries of Water, Public Works, Energy, Information Communication Technology and Transport.
According to the World Bank, Zimbabwe needs at least US$15 billion to rebuild its dilapidated infrastructure.
Some of the issues being examined in the audit include long-term plans for rehabilitating defunct infrastructure, building a solid infrastructure base, creating competitiveness including monitoring and evaluations as well as establishing resources required to meet the goals.
The Southern African Development Community is carrying out a similar exercise to come up with a Sadc Master Plan and Zimbabwe’s findings will be fed into it. – New Ziana.
