BULAWAYO Municipal Commercial Undertaking (BMCU)’s beverages manufacturing unit, Ingwebu Breweries has committed to help schools combat and contain the Covid-19 scourge in the wake of the rise in infections at educational institutions countrywide.
The company, through its Mahewu brand, has already come to the aid of John Tallach and Matopo High schools through giving personal protective equipment (PPE) and disinfectants that are crucial in the fight against Covid-19.
John Tallach High School in Ntabazinduna was the first to headline the spread of the virus in schools. Matopo High, in Matabeleland South’s Matobo District is now a quarantine centre after 10 people tested positive.
Ingwebu Breweries last Friday, came on board to assist the schools with 200 litres of fumigation liquid, 100 litres of hand sanitisers and 150 face shields each.
Ingwebu Breweries human resources manager Mr Dumisani Moyo said the company remained committed to helping the communities it serves as part of the fight to combat Covid-19.
“The children at our schools are the future and as such Ingwebu Breweries joins in the fight to help John Tallach and Matopo High schools to protect pupils, staff, and the community,” said Mr Moyo in an interview with Sunday News at the PPE handover in the city last Friday.
“It is our duty to help the future leaders of our country and businesses.” Representatives from both schools thanked Ingwebu Breweries for the timely donation.
Bishop Sunday Ngulube of the Brethren in Christ Church that runs Matopo High said the church appreciates the gesture by Ingwebu Breweries.
“This donation goes on to show that the business community has not forgotten the plight of our learners. Blessed is the hand that gives,” he said.
Ingwebu Breweries’ non-alcoholic drink, Royal Mahewu was introduced to consolidate the company’s business through creation of additional revenue streams.
