“I AM very happy now that finally we have wedded and I can go back to work.” Those were the words of an injiva, Nkosinqobile Mthunzi when he left the Bulawayo Civil Court yesterday after tying the knot with new wife, Sikhanyisiwe Kikins.Mthunzi, 34, of Pumula South initially tried to secretly wed the pregnant Kikins, 38, but his ex-wife Dorcas Tshuma showed up and disrupted the proceedings.

Tshuma claimed at that time she was still customarily married to Mthunzi who was all smiles yesterday after Takundwa Witness Mtetwa pronounced him and Kikins as husband and wife before six relatives who witnessed the union.

The court intervened in Mthunzi and Tshuma’s wrangle and the couple ended up sharing property in which each party got 50 percent of proceeds from selling their car.

Mthunzi got 75 percent of the house he bought while in South Africa with Tshuma getting 25 percent. Tshuma had claimed that their marriage still existed and accused Mthunzi of being irresponsible.

The court issued dissolution of the unregistered customary marriage and by consent the couple finally shared household property.
Tshuma was awarded a bed, plasma television set, kitchen unit, microwave, a two-plate stove and 50 percent of an Audi car.

Mthunzi got the other half of the car’s proceeds, a fridge, a bed, and a two plate stove, settling what could have cost him the love of Kikins.

Mthunzi, who works as a truck driver in Durban said he desperately needed the new marriage and patiently waited for it before going back to his base in South Africa.

“Ngijabulile mntakamama, (I am happy my brother). I didn’t expect that this thing would end soon but now it’s done and injiva isingaziyela emsebenzini.

“I didn’t want to be selfish although she contributed nothing to the property and I gave her 25 percent of the house. The matter was settled by the court and we shared the property,” said Mthunzi.

An all smiles Kikins said: “This was difficult when it started but now we are enjoying. Sesithathene. We are happy but one thing for sure we are not even ashamed of what happened because we have now officially wedded.”

The couple exchanged vows under Chapter 5:11 of the Marriages Act. Mthunzi has three children from another marriage and his three-year marriage to Tshuma bore no child.
