THE annual Madlangambe football tournament bankrolled by South African-based Zimbabwean Mthabisi Mlingo roars into life on New Year’s Eve in Tsholotsho.
The tournament features four teams, three from Tsholotsho and a select side from Bulawayo’s Emakhandeni suburb, Buffaloes Strikers.
“This is the fifth year we are running this tournament, which is meant to bring our youths together and also put Tsholotsho into the limelight. The media always associates our area with negative things, ‘Tsholotsho this, Tsholotsho that’. All is negative and we want to counter that notion. We are also a talented footballing district and I want to expose that talent,” said Mlingo.
He said winners of the tourney will walk away with a full kit, medals and a ball.
“It is normally at this time of the year our place is negatively highlighted, involving us the so called injiva, but I am saying we have people like us who want to fight this stigma. We want the world to know that we care about where we come from and we want Tsholotsho to develop. I call upon everyone with roots in Tsholotsho to come on board and assist,” Mlingo said.
Tsholotsho South Member of Parliament Zenzo Sibanda will be the guest of honour.
