Seasoned Marabi and Afro Jazz muso Jeyz Marabini has extended his gratitude to a talented inmate Maurice Peterson who trades by the stage name X-Qon, as he donated to him an acoustic guitar as a manner of appreciating the prisoner’s gift.

Marabini made the kind gesture on his visit to Khami Maximum Prison recently — where he spent the whole of Independence Day at the correctional facility entertaining inmates.

Marabini said he appreciated Peterson’s gift as he saw him in 2021. He said since the last time he saw him, there has been great improvement in as much as his rehabilitation process is concerned.

“It was indeed a highly remarkable and heart-touching Independence Day celebration held by the Khami Maximum Prison. I was astonished by the amazing talent the inmates exhibited. As someone who is a proud creative and cultural industry promoter, I saw it fit to extend my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to one of the inmates “Maurice Peterson” with abundant musical talent in the form of an Acoustic guitar donation. I believe that these are some of the works worth supporting as a nation. My greatest appreciation goes to Khami Maximum Prison, we have established a long-lasting relationship, and I am thankful,” said Marabin.

Peterson was charged with murder and he is serving 30 years in prison.

“Before I came to prison, I was an abusive husband who used to beat up his wife every time we had a misunderstanding and this turned out to be more of a habit as I was always under the influence of alcohol.

You know at times I ask myself what was really wrong with me because the case that brought me to prison was related to domestic violence. I assaulted my son as I was fighting with his mother and in the process, he fell on the ground.

“The impact of falling on the ground was rather severe such that he had some internal injuries.

After the incident, I took my son to the shops, but he was still crying such that I had to beat him up again thinking that he was going to keep quiet of which that did not work out. When we came back from the shops the mother took the child to sleep and when they checked on him an hour or so later, he had lost consciousness,” said Peterson on a previous interview with B-Metro.

He said he has found God while in prison and he was happy with his rehabilitation process which has lessened his anger issues.

Peterson was identified in 2018 by Clarence “Kirah” Garura through his Inside Out Talent show for prison inmates at Khami Prison complex. In 2022, he released an Extended Play titled 2 Wrongs.
