Two Harare Central Prison inmates appeared in court facing a murder charge.

Chizuzu Nelson,39, and Obey Chirandu, 40, were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

The two were advised to approach High Court for bail application.

They will be back in court on March 3 pending finalisation of investigations.

The State said on January 16 this year, at Harare Central Prison cells, Chizuzu and Chirandu had a misunderstanding with Tendai Muchiha, who they were sharing a prison cell with.

It is alleged that another inmate, Casias Jack, woke up and accused Muchiha of messing him with semen all over his body in an attempt to sodomise him.

The court was told that at around 4am, Nelson and Chirandu confronted Muchiha over his behaviour and they assaulted him.

The State said Muchiha went back to sleep and was found dead that same morning.

The duo admitted to assaulting late Muchiha.

Grace Mugocheke appeared for the State.
