CHIKURUBI Female Prison inmates have hailed the prison clinic for its provision of standard healthcare facilities.
One inmate, Irene Chiwashira, said the clinic was key in taking good care of their health.
“There is no difference between clinics at home and the prison clinic.
“Nurses at the clinic always deliver and they do not treat us as prisoners, but like any other patient,” she said.
Chiwashira said the clinic staff also takes care of mentally-challenged inmates.
“There are mentally-challenged people here who need constant check-ups to ensure they do not get violent or suffer depression.
“This creates an opportunity for the sick to communicate and voice their problems,” she said.
Another inmate, Alice Mpofu, said although the clinic sometimes lacks drugs, the staff works hard to uphold their right to good health.
“I gave birth at the prison clinic five months ago, and the experience was the same with my previous deliveries.
“I expected the delivery to be different, but the staff delivered my premature daughter who recently turned five months,” she said.
Mpofu pleaded with the public to help them with diapers and baby food so that their children’s nutrition is not compromised.
