Sasedza Primary School in Tsholotsho District, Matabeleland North Province, has received a major boost following a donation of a soccer kit from Insimbi ZeZhwane band manager Bahlanu Sagqumo Sibanda, who is a former learner at the school.
The South Africa-based manager handed over the kit on Friday at the school.
Sibanda said the gesture was a way of giving back to the school which gave him the foundation of what he is now.
“Growing up I used to love sports but we did not have the attire to do sports. Sometime while in Grade Six we had donors who visited our school from England. They asked us to write what they could do for the school and I wrote soccer kits and balls. Unfortunately, those donors never came back, and for me this is a fulfilment of a dream I wanted to see happening then,” he said.
Sibanda urged members of the public to contribute the little they have to their former schools, which will go a long way in their development.
He said the move brought smiles to the learners who will use the kit during the ball games.
“During our time we used to play games using our school uniforms and most of the time we had to take off our shirts to differentiate the two teams. We must love our communities where we come from and seeing the school authorities and boys smile after receiving the donation was fulfilling. I hope in the next coming years we will have soccer players coming from rural areas because we have so much talent there,” he said.
The multi-talented manager also donated a soccer ball to the school.
Tsholotsho has produced a number of soccer players, including the now Simba Bora coach Joel “Dubai” Luphahla.
