ZANU-PF candidate for Insiza North by-election, Cde Delani Moyo, has pledged to uphold and further President Mnangagwa’s development philosophy of “leaving no one and no place behind”, to ensure fulfilment of Vision 2030 of an upper middle-income economy.
In an interview, Cde Moyo, who will represent the ruling party in the June 14 by-elections, said his vision for Insiza North is focused on inclusive growth and community empowerment.
The by-election was prompted by the death of Cde Farai Taruvinga in March following a prolonged battle with cancer. Cde Taruvinga was first elected in the 2018 harmonised elections and retained the seat in the 2023 general elections.
Cde Moyo said that as an Insiza child, he understood the developmental needs of the area as he is already actively involved in community development initiatives.
“Economic empowerment is vital for our community’s growth. We need to create an environment where entrepreneurs can thrive, and jobs can be created for our young people and women,” he said.
“We must invest in our youth by providing quality education and vocational training that equips them for the future. The philosophy of leaving no one behind resonates deeply with me.
“I am dedicated to ensuring that every member of our community has access to opportunities and resources that will improve their lives,” said Cde Moyo.
He further expressed his intent to engage with various stakeholders, including local leaders and community members, to identify and address their specific needs.
“I believe in participatory governance, where the voices of the people are heard and considered in decision-making processes. Together, we can build a brighter future for our community, ensuring that no one is left behind when it comes to development,” said Cde Moyo.
“I also know there are issues such as failing to access safe and clean water so I will ensure more boreholes are drilled in the constituency and that they are solarised.
“As someone who is already staying in Insiza, I believe I know most of the needs of this community.”
Cde Moyo was born in Filabusi where he also did both his primary and secondary education.
“After finishing my O-level, I started working in mines, which was in 1994. I joined the ruling Zanu-PF party in the year 2000 as I was impressed with the empowerment drive, which was being spearheaded by the party,” he said.
“In the year 2002, I managed to get my own mining claim. When I joined the ruling party, I started from the cell level and rose to become cell chairperson in the area where I stayed. I later became a member of the branch and from there I became the vice chairperson of the district,” said Cde Moyo.
He said he continued working hard for the party until he was elected into the provincial structures.
“My first position was deputy secretary for finance and was later elevated to finance secretary. In 2022, I contested to be part of the Central Committee, which is the post I hold today,” he added.
Between 2018 and 2023, Cde Moyo was the Councillor for Ward 13 in Insiza Rural District Council, representing the ruling party.
“In 2023, I contested to represent the constituency but I was defeated by the late Cde Taruvinga. However, despite the loss, I did not stop working with the community as I continued working on a number of developmental projects, which I believe is the reason why the people have voted for me to represent the party in the upcoming elections,” said Cde Moyo.
