INSIZA Rural District Council is set to auction stray livestock that has not been claimed by owners in the past three months.

There are 30 oxen, 16 cows, 16 heifers, six bulls, four steers, 28 goats and 16 donkeys which will be auctioned at different venues across the district between 13 and 16 December.

Council said part of the money that will be raised from selling the livestock will be paid to farmers that have been keeping the livestock as the local authority does not have a pound to keep the animals.

In an interview, Insiza RDC chief executive officer Mr Shepard Tshuma said the impounded livestock should be claimed within three months.

He urged farmers who are missing cattle, goats or donkeys to contact council so that they can be directed where the impounded animals are being kept.

Mr Tshuma said owners who manage to identify their cattle, goats or donkeys before the auction will get their animals back without being charged a fee.

“It will be their decision to pay an appreciation fee to the farmers who keeping their livestock,” he said. – @NomqheleC.
