The summer school is a development programme for junior to middle managers in the insurance industry.
The summer school comes as the insurance sector has turned the corner on the back of efforts to resuscitate the economy.
Due to this revival it has become critical to continuously train professionals to make up for the brain drain that hit the industry during the past 10 years as well as impart new skills to insurance practitioners in order for them to deal with new challenges in the industry.
The IIZ has the mandate of training and developing insurance professionals in the country.
It currently offers an insurance diploma and Associateship diploma under its Associateship programme.
The Associateship diploma is recognised by the National University of Science and Technology for entry into the Master of Science in Risk Management and Insurance Degree programme.
In addition, holders of the Associateship diploma are eligible for admission as Associates of the Insurance Institute of South Africa.
The institute is expecting to launch the Fellowship programme, that is a notch higher than the Associateship programme, soon.
