Insuza man jailed for unlawful entry, indecent assault

A 30-year-old Insuza man has been sentenced to 29 months in prison after he was found guilty of unlawful entry and indecent assault.

Kwanele Moyo of Village 2C, Dundubala area appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate, Ms Sibonginkosi Mkandla, facing a charge of unlawful entry and was found guilty.

He was also charged with attempted rape but got convicted of indecent assault.

Moyo was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment on count one, of which four months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. On count two, he was slapped with 12 months imprisonment of which three months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

He will therefore serve 29 months effective.

Prosecuting, Ms Tsungai Mutapi told the court that on April 2, 2026 and at around 9PM, the complainant, who could not be named to protect her image, was asleep in her bedroom house alone when she heard some footsteps outside the house.

“The accused person started hitting the window with an unknown object, he broke two window panes and shattered glasses fell inside complainant’s bedroom,” said Ms Mutapi.

The court heard that the accused person forced unlocked door to open and entered the bedroom.

“Whilst inside he got hold of the complainant and tried to remove the complainant’s tight pants and the complainant started fighting back and the accused tore complainant’s skin tight,” she said.

The court heard that the complainant fled the scene screaming for help while the accused remained in the house.

“The complainant met her husband approximately 500m from the scene who became first to be told that the accused attempted to rape her,” she said.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the accused person.
