THE 2024 Inter-NGO sports games held on Saturday at First Capital Bank Sports Club have been described as “an unwinding experience for all participants”.
The event saw more than 40 Non-governmental organisations competing in different sporting activities including football, volleyball, basketball, athletics, darts, and tug of war among other games.
Event organiser Bridget Bake said they aim to build wellness through inter-activities and, at the same time continue helping in charitable events.
The event has been running for the last 15 years and has grown over the years. This year’s edition was oversubscribed.
“This is an annual event where all NGOs come together. The aim is for us to network and socialise. We are building our wellness activities across organisations,” she said.
“We aim to contribute to a bigger cause by looking for funds to donate to charity,” Bake said.
“We have been doing this for the past 15 years. We are grateful for the support from everyone including different corporate groups coming in.
“We had all the traditional events, that is the field games, then we also had athletics.
“In summation, we had all the field events and ball games represented today.
“The idea is to try to build the visibility of NGOs, a lot of people don’t know what NGOs do. We also try to push for the good, by assisting less privileged communities.”
Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking, Davison Kujaranja said the job done by NGOs to uplift communities made it inevitable for the bank to work with them.
“As First Capital we are a bank that wants to grow with any progressive institution.
“So, the NGOs community has always partnered with us. The way they carry out their duties supporting the government and the less privileged in communities in any possible way.
“As a bank, we thought it well for us to be here supporting the sport and the community.
“We are simply giving back to the community in a way that we are saying have fun in our place for free so that they may interact and unwind after days at work.
Panashe Chineunye of CIMAS medical aid said they are committed to continue sponsoring these games for the good of the society.
”We care about our members and we are here with wellness solutions and we are pleased with the great turnout.”
