A Harare internal auditor has been fined $300 for using a fake certificate to secure his job at the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC).

Joseph Mufambisi (46) was convicted by Harare regional magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei of  corruptly using a false document and faces six months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.

Prosecutor Mr Tendai Tapi proved that in June 2021, NPRC advertised for an internal auditor position, requiring a degree in accounting or a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy.

Mufambisi applied, falsely claiming to hold a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy.

He was interviewed alongside two other candidates and was accepted, assuming duty on September 29, 2021.

However, when NPRC’s Human Resources department requested for his certificate, Mufambisi failed to provide it, citing an accident.

An internal audit in March 2022 revealed he had not submitted the certificate, and investigations confirmed he had not completed his Higher National Diploma, having only passed four out of 11 subjects.

Mufambisi’s misrepresentation led to his appointment as internal auditor, prejudicing NPRC’s administration and causing unfairness
