Interim board takes over bodybuilding association

Fitness Association until a substantive executive is ushered into office next month.
The committee of Claude Shambare, Godfrey Nyoni and Kenny Murungweni was given the mandate at a meeting held at the Sports Commission last week to map the way forward ahead of an all stakeholders meeting on November 5.

The Sports Commission dissolved the committee led by Kays Rushika as part of measures to revamp the association and selected the trio to prepare for the holding of elections.
Shambare was the secretary-general in the outgoing committee while Nyoni was the vice-president to Rushika and Murungweni is coming from Pro-Fitness Gym.
The Sports Commission’s Sports Development manager Angela Nyaundi will closely monitor the trio’s operations until the holding of elections at the Sports Commission’s offices.

“We have been tasked to prepare the framework for holding an all stakeholders meeting on November 5. This meeting will elect a new executive to run the affairs of the national bodybuilding and fitness association and our role is to prepare for these elections.

“Before the executive was dissolved, work has been going on the new constitution but I think we should be giving it to whoever is elected to fully implement,” said Shambare.
While preparing for the elections remains key, Shambare said the three members will also work towards the staging of the Mr Zimbabwe contest at Elephant Hills on October 29. The Mr Zimbabwe is the premier bodybuilding contest in the country.

“The contest will give us a chance to meet most of the stakeholders in the sport before the crucial meeting which comes a few days later,” said Shambare.
“There is going to be a Mr and Ms Manicaland in Mutare tomorrow (today) and we are going to meet people who are serious in the sport. I am sure people who have the bodybuilding at heart will come to support the events in Mutare and Victoria Falls. We are also going to link the SRC with stakeholders who should be invited for the meeting,” said Shambare.
