Addressing provincial heads during a Provincial Development Committee (PDC) meeting at Masvingo Polytechnic College on Wednesday, provincial administrator Mr Felix Chikovo said the ad-hoc committee was meant to monitor progress as well as mobilise resources towards the resettlement of families within the river basin of the multi-million dollar dam project.
“We want a committee that would foresee the progress at the dam construction project. We should appreciate there is a lot of work that needs to be done and that includes resettling of affected families,” said Mr Chikovo.
He said there were more than 3 000 families that needed to be resettled after being displaced by the project adding that this should be done as a matter of urgency.
“We have to resettle 3 000 families as of now and all the responsibility lies with us, as Masvingo PDC.
“We are answerable to what will happen to those families if we fail to expedite the process before the onset of rain season this year,” he said.
He said they will have to come up with a village model with all facilities that include clinics, roads and schools.
Mr Chikovo, who was chairing the meeting on behalf of the Governor and Resident Minister of Masvingo Cde Titus Maluleke, said the ad-hoc committee comprising critical sector ministries would play a pivotal role in seeing the completion of the project.
