International volleyball body conducts coaching clinic in Harare

The course started on Monday and will end today at the Highfield Community Centre.
Zimbabwe Beach Volleyball commission executive member Robert Njerere is confident the course will popularise the mini-version of volleyball.
“This is the first time that such a course is being held in Zimbabwe and it’s meant to popularise the sport of beach volleyball.
“The course is involving both theory and practical sessions,” said Njerere.
ZVA vice-president Eramus Mupukuta, Last Mapfumo, James Masimba, Viola Muchaoona, Elliot Mpariwa and Nyasha Takawira are among the players and officials attending the course.
Mashonaland West, Midlands, Masvingo and the Zimbabwe Prison Services have also sent representatives to the course.
Njerere is hoping that course will also help them in their preparations for an invitational tournament in South Africa later this month.
“We are likely to have some Zimbabwean teams at the Invitational Tournament Open in Port Eliza- beth, South Africa, from April 22 to 24.
“As the national team coach, I should be in South Africa and use the event as a platform for picking our team for the Olympic Qualifiers which should be in June in Durban,” said Njerere.
The Zimbabwe women’s beach volleyball team has qualified for the Zone Six Olympic qualifiers after finishing second during the regional qualifiers held in Maputo, Mozambique, in February.
Participating in beach volleyball for the first time, the Zimbabwe women’s team, featuring Nomatter Mbiza, Viola Muchaoona, Yeukai Mukurumbira, Nyasha Gwenzi and Vuyiswa Dhlomo, defied all odds to finish a credible second.
