A COUNCILLOR has challenged church leaders who speak in tongues without interpretating the meaning of their words.
Cllr Benn Tafirenyika challenged the church leaders while addressing a church conference at Maponongwe Secondary School in Murehwa on Sunday.
Cllr Tafirenyika of Ward 17, under the Bindura South Constituent, said the message has to reach the congregants.
“We have no problem with worshippers who speak in tongues, prophecy with the power of the Holy Spirit,” said Cllr Tafirenyika.
“We have challenges when they fail to understand the tongues, lack knowledge, wisdom and teaching that can allow them to have food at their homes.
“When people gather with one purpose they achieve great things, like the efforts recorded at the tower of Babel where God ended by dividing their languages.
“These are the languages you call spiritual tongues, you fail to understand.
“Ndimi mukaramba muchidzitaura imi musina anodudzira mucharasikirwa nezvakawanda zvaifanira kunzwisiswa pamunopinda mumweya mutsvene.”
Cllr Tafirenyika added:
“As Christians we urge you to meet for a good cause, teach each other why God promised Biblical Israel land full of honey and milk.
“Do not boast in the gift of prophecy to prophecy others but let it give light to your own life before helping others.
“We are tired of prophets who spend the better part of the day waiting to fool people and stealing their hard-earned money and end up raping our daughters and mothers.”
