THE City of Kings and Queens lit up yesterday as the Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo roared to life.
With the partial opening of the arts sector, Intwasa will host a few events at selected venues.
The venues are the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, (NGZ), the Bulawayo Theatre and the Zimbabwe Music Academy near ZITF.
The festival kicked off with a workshop held at NGZ. The same venue hosted two plays, The Morning After and The Road Not Travelled.
Today, creatives will mingle at the Zimbabwe Music Academy situated at ZITF through a film making masterclass in production and distribution from 10 am to 4pm. ALZ Film Fellows short film screenings will be held at the same venue from 1pm to 2pm.
From 6pm to 8pm, Bulawayo Theatre will host the play, Secret of Siren. Before the play, at 5pm, a show dubbed Dry Jokes Comedy will be held at the same venue.
Thursday at 1pm to 2pm will see the NGZ being home to a book launch and public reading event. While that is playing out, the Zimbabwe Academy of Music will screen Date Night and Mlamu Wami, two short films.
To cap Thursday night, Bulawayo Theatre will show a moving picture called Footprint at Bulawayo Theatre at 6pm. #Umjolo and The Hen That Came Home to Roost, will be enacted through sound and video at the NGZ at 5pm.
Friday vibes will kick off with The Women’s Round Table from 10am to 4pm at NGZ.
From 2pm to 4pm will be an event dubbed Amplifying Girls Voices Through Digital Arts at Bulawayo Club.
Women, Wine and Words will take place at the National Art Gallery of Bulawayo from 5pm.
For beer and food lovers, a Beer and Braai Festival will be held at the National Art Gallery of Bulawayo car park from 10am to3pm.
Bulawayo Theatre will host the play, Death Bed from 5pm to 6pm.
On Saturday, from 10am to 4pm, there will be a Girls Leadership Workshop at NGZ. Poetry Slam will be held from 1pm to 2pm at NGZ courtyard while a Youth 4 Hope Concert is billed for the same venue from 4pm to 8pm.
A stand-up comedy night has been slated for Bulawayo Theatre at 6.30 pm.
There will be a curtain call on the festival after the Intwasa Fashion Show which starts at the Music Academy at 6pm.
In an interview, Intwasa director Raisedon Baya said: “We are into the festival. We can never be 100 percent prepared under the conditions we operate, Covid-19 and lack of proper resources, but we are ready and running.
“Since the festival coincides with ZITF, there are a number of opportunities as people coming to the ZITF can also partake in the festival although there are still restrictions that limit us maximising the opportunities,” said Baya. — @mthabisi_mthire
