TEHRAN. – Iran and Germany have agreed to set up a special working group to expand mutual co-operation in the agricultural sector, a senior Iranian lawmaker announced yesterday. A delegation from the Iranian parliament accompanied Iranian Minister of Agricultural Jihad, Mahmoud Hojjati, in his January visit to Berlin to participate in the Global Food and Agricultural Forum, vice chairman of Iran’s Majlis (parliament) Agriculture Commission Naser Salehinasab said.

The Iranian delegation held meetings with German agriculture minister, heads of agricultural companies and investors, he added.
“The exchange of agricultural products between Iran and Germany was stressed in the meeting,” Salehinasab was quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency.

“In our meeting with the German agriculture minister, it was agreed to establish a joint working group to expand the two countries’ mutual co-operation in the development of agricultural sector,” he said.

According to the talks, a German agricultural delegation will visit Iran within a month to prepare the ground for broader co-operation with Tehran in the field, he added.

On January 21, Hojjati underlined the need to boost bilateral agriculture and food co-operation while he was in Berlin to attend the forum, according to official IRNA news agency.

He urged the German agricultural and food companies to invest in Iran’s agricultural and food industries, saying that they would also benefit from tax exemption in Iran.

He said Iranian companies could benefit from Germany’s marketing and food packaging industry, as well as the technological expertise in the sphere of agriculture. Export of the Iranian herbal medicine to Germany was another example for such co-operation, he added. –  Xinhua.
