The Iranian leader claimed that the country’s enemies are trying to discourage people from going to the polls.
He also warned that they want to promote the idea that voting is of no use.
A total of 686 candidates have registered for the presidential election, which is scheduled for June the 14th.
Iran’s Guardian Council of the Constitution, the country’s main legislative body, is now studying the qualifications of the candidates.
It’s due to release its results with the final list of candidates in the next few days.
Meanwhile, Iran has failed to break a deadlock with the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog over a stalled investigation into Tehran’s suspected atomic bomb research.
Both sides say they will hold another meeting, but no date has been set.
Herman Naeckaerts, IAEA Deputy Director General, said, “Intensive discussions today but we could not finalise the structured approach document that has been on the negotiations for a year and a half now.
“Our commitment to continue a dialogue is unwavering, however we must recognise that our best efforts have not been successful so far. So we will continue to try and complete this process and as Ambassador Soltanieh said a date for the next meeting is still to be set.”
With Iran focused on a presidential election next month, expectations for the meeting in Vienna had been low.
The IAEA has been trying for more than a year to reopen an inquiry into the possible military elements of Tehran’s nuclear work. But Iran denies it has any aims to develop nuclear weapons.
The United States says it expects the IAEA to eventually urge the UN Security Council to take further action.
