IRAN is committed to expediting the implementation of 12 agreements signed during the State visit of the country’s former President, Ebrahim Raisi, to Zimbabwe last year.
These agreements cover key sectors such as agriculture, science, energy, labour, social protection, ICT, and pharmaceuticals.
The cooperation aims to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations, fostering economic growth and development in Zimbabwe.
Speaking soon after paying a courtesy call on Vice President Kembo Mohadi at his Munhumutapa offices in Harare yesterday, Iranian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Abbas Navazani, said they discussed several issues of mutual interest to the two nations.
His country was eager to implement the MoUs that were signed last year when the late President Raisi visited Zimbabwe.
The courtesy call followed a visit by Vice President Mohadi to Iran where he attended the swearing-in ceremony of current Iran President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian.
“This meeting was following up on issues that were discussed between the two high-ranking officials, on business, economic relations, and many MOUs which were signed during the late former Iranian President Raisi’s visit to Zimbabwe.
“During that time Iran and Zimbabwe signed 12 agreements to boost bilateral relations,” said the Ambassador.
“Our new President emphasised that we should follow and implement all the MoUs which were signed by the two countries. There is a need to accelerate and ramp up our activities to implement the MoUs”.
There will be a midterm review of the implementation of the MoUs between the two countries soon.
