Vice President Constantino Chiwenga yesterday officially opened Regina Coeli Primary School in Nyamaropa and expressed Government’s joy over citizens enjoying the benefits of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, particularly in areas that fiercely resisted colonial rule.

Regina Coeli Primary School in Nyamaropa, near Nyanga, lies along a historic gateway for freedom fighters seeking military training during the liberation struggle.

The school and its vicinities produced several freedom fighters including the current Commander Zimbabwe National Army Lieutenant-General Anselem Sanyatwe.

Against the area’s rich liberation war history, VP Chiwenga said it makes him happier to open a school in an area that was subjected to the colonial regime’s exclusionary stance.

“Today, we are fully witnessing the fruition of our national desires, a desire and commitment for all our children to receive equal and quality primary education in all corners of Zimbabwe,” said VP Chiwenga.

“This speaks volumes about the commitment by Government together with the church and individuals to build a brighter future for our children and country.

“The construction of this primary school here in far east Nyanga indeed marks a footprint to the mantra by our President, His Excellency Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa of leaving no one and no place behind,” said VP Chiwenga.

The opening of the primary school will go a long way in dissuading early dropouts most of which have condemned kids to social ills like drug and substance abuse.

“The Government is ensuring that the country’s development trajectory is tailor-made within the doctrine of modernisation, innovation and industrialisation under the Education 5.0 thrust,” said VP Chiwenga.

“This concept is aimed at empowering students with practical skills apart from learning theory.

“To this end, Government has solid plans to construct more science parks, research hubs and incubation centres to facilitate the successful implementation of Education 5.0.

“At the primary school level, Government and partners will construct more primary schools to foster conducive learning and nurturing environment.

“To the teachers and staff who will guide and nurture the minds of our children, I extend my deepest gratitude.

“Your dedication and passion are the driving force behind the transformation that will take place within these walls,” said VP Chiwenga.

He expressed confidence in teachers’ ability to use their expertise to develop captains of industry and entrepreneurs who will establish businesses and vibrant projects.

VP Chiwenga called on parents to support the education of their children saying the Zimbabwe Early Learning Policy underscores the importance of community engagement and involvement as a key pillar to enhancing teaching and learning outcomes in   schools.

He thanked the Catholic Church, parents, teachers, pupils, and the entire Nyanga and Nyamaropa community for seeing off the construction of the school.

“It is the Government and my own desire to see the school remaining a shining light, not only here in Nyanga, but in the whole country for generations and generations to come.

“I assure you that education remains one of the Government’s priority areas and together with your support the country will rise to become our shining star than ever before and not only in Africa but to the entire world,” said VP Chiwenga.

The VP was accompanied by several Government officials among them Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Misheck Mugadza, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Chido Sanyatwe who is also the area legislator, Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Dr Angelina Gata, and Lt Gen Sanyatwe among others.

Education Director of the Catholic Dioceses of Mutare Father Phillip Kembo said they are overjoyed by the strong relationship that exists between the church and Government.

“Regina Coeli Community has responded and fulfilled the request by the Second Republic’s mantra, that no place and no one should be left behind,” said Father Kembo.

“It is our wish as a Church, that we complement the efforts of the Government, to protect the youth from drug abuse and also from early marriages and any other forms of abuse that young children can be exposed to.

“A community, enjoy a harmonious and healthy working relationship with the Nyanga Education District and the Provincial Education Offices and other Government entities.

“We also wish to have technical colleges in such areas as Nyamaropa where our young men and women, can be trained to develop skills that process what we produce here in our irrigation schemes, like the beans we plant,” said Father Kembo.
