A MAN from Makokoba suburb in Bulawayo allegedly flew off the handle and ganged up with his friends to beat up a rival suitor accusing him of proposing love to his wife, a court heard yesterday.

Tedia Musavengana, 26, appeared yesterday before Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa facing assault charges.

He pleaded guilty and was remanded out of custody to today. “I assaulted Sylvester Mpondera because I saw him proposing love to my wife,” said Musavengana.

“I didn’t propose to her your worship. I was walking in the neighbourhood when she was just passing by then Musavengana assumed I was trying to propose to her,” said Mpondera.

Prosecuting, Dennmore Kasenza told the court that on November 30 at around 7PM at Mkambo market, Makokoba, Musavengana and three people who are still at large assaulted Mpondera several times with fists and unknown objects on his head and body. “Mpondera was being accused of proposing love to Musavengana’s wife and he sustained a swollen right cheek and a cut on the left finger,” said Kasenza.

He reported the matter to the police and Musavengana was arrested.
