A Harare man connected a hosepipe to a tap and watered his entire house because he was angry that his wife was drinking alcohol at their home, the Harare Magistrates’ Civil Court heard on Friday.
Emmy Chinengundu said her husband Charles Chinengundu was in the habit of physically and verbally abusing her each time he came home drunk.
She had taken her husband to the court seeking a protection order.
“I am living in fear because whenever he comes home drunk at night he physically and verbally abuses me with obscene words,” said Emmy.
“I had to lock myself in one of the bedrooms last week when he came home drunk and found my beer on the table.
“He started asking me where I got the beer from before chasing after me, which prompted me to lock myself in the bedroom.
“While I was in the bedroom, he went on to connect a hosepipe to the tap and started watering the whole house.”
Charles admitted to the allegations and blamed his actions on alcohol.
“I cannot oppose anything on what she said because I only do it when I am drunk,” he said.
Magistrate Ms Gamuchirai Siwardi granted the protection order which barred Charles from physically or verbally abusing his wife.
