The flamboyant influencer, known for growing audiences for social media content seekers with his wild antics and no-filter videos, appeared calm as he faced the charges, even flashing a cheeky grin to a group of supporters, who had gathered to watch the proceedings. But his behaviour in court was erratic enough to raise concerns, leading the magistrate to order that two State doctors assess him under the before his trial can proceed.
The ruling came after a chaotic few days online. On Tuesday, social media went into complete meltdown when B-Metro broke the initial story of Moyo’s arrest.
Netizens flooded timelines with some calling him a “nuisance” who needed to be taken off the streets, while others defended him, insisting that although his behaviour was bizarre, he was no thief.
“Talent is a menace. The way he harasses women in town is unacceptable. He needs help or jail time,” one angry user posted. Another wrote, “He is just misunderstood. He likes attention, but I don’t believe he would steal.”
According to court papers, the incident took place on 11 September along the busy 6th Avenue corridor near the intersection of Jason Moyo and Fife Street.
Moyo allegedly pounced on Value Chivange (38), a self-employed businesswoman from Lobengula West, and shoved his hands into her pockets before grabbing her cash and disappearing into the bustling evening crowd.
“The accused unlawfully took US$150 belonging to the complainant with the intent to permanently deprive her of her money,” read part of the State outline.
Chivange reported the matter to police, sparking an urgent manhunt that ended with Moyo’s arrest.
Investigators say none of the money was recovered.
The case, which has been trending across Bulawayo, has divided opinion and turned the spotlight on Moyo’s public behaviour, with many saying his troubling conduct toward women had gone unchecked for too long.
Moyo will remain in custody until 22 September, when doctors are expected to deliver their reports to determine whether he will face trial or be sent for treatment.
