Is ‘match-fixing’ rearing ugly head in Eastern Region Div One league?

Allegations are that some of the Triangle officials were seen in Chipinge mingling with the Gaza Gunners players in the build-up to their game which led many to believe that the match                could have been fixed.

The match was then called off and Zifa Eastern region chairman Fungai Chihuri could                        neither confirm nor deny allegations of match-fixing.

“There were some issues which we picked before the two teams’ match (Triangle/Gaza Gunners) and we decided to call it off but I am not at liberty to disclose anything at the moment,” said Chihuri.
Triangle coach Gishon Ntini has denied the allegations of match-fixing and feels it is the work of opponents who want to drag his name and that of his club into mud.

“The match was cancelled at the last minute and we were only told when we were in Tanganda on our way to Chipinge to fulfil the game,” said Ntini.

“News is circulating that there was a Triangle supporter who was seen in Gaza last week but I don’t know if it’s possible to stop supporters from moving around.

“These are childish and miscellaneous accusations because supporters have nothing to do with the club.

“I know it’s the work of haters but I want to tell them we are watching closely and they should know that they are playing with a big man.

“These people used to underrate Triangle for the past 40 years and they want to pour cold water on what we have worked for all this time.

“It’s the work of our enemies who are trailing us on the log — football is supposed to be played on the field of play and not in the boardrooms.

We know a lot of stuff which is happening but we don’t want to preempt anything yet and                they should be on the alert because they can shoot themselves in the foot.

“We have invested a lot and brought quality into this project. I am a big coach with big players and people should respect us for that,” added Ntini.
Until last weekend’s results Triangle have been enjoying a five-point cushion at the top of the log but it was reduced to two as they did not play following the postponement of their match against Gaza Gunners.
