ZPC Kariba goalkeeper, Future Sibanda, says he is still struggling to believe that he has become part of the Warriors set-up.
He has received his second successive senior national team call-up.
The goalminder is part of the squad for the Unity Cup Tournament set for England next week.
The ‘keeper, who joined ZPC Kariba in 2019, has endured a merry-go-round tale in his career.
“I still do not believe all this is happening, it is all coming fast and at a time when I had almost lost hope. God’s time is always best, I remember the day the call came, I trembled in disbelief but immediately told myself that I needed to go and showcase what I can do.”
Sibanda has been one of the few players who have made it into the senior national team without attracting public criticism.
He even feels that last year he did not have a good adventure in the top-flight league as he largely played second fiddle to Tatenda Munditi.
However, it was apparent, when he got the chance to play, he showed that he was a decent ‘keeper.
Recently he was crowned man-of-the-match when the Newton Chitewe-led side held Scottland and Dynamos to goalless draws at Rufaro.
“Last year was not that good for me and it kept me restless in the off-season.
“I worked hard to make sure that I came back this season improved.
“The season has been good for me so far but I am not yet at my best, I believe that lessons from the national team and the exposure will also aid my improvements.”
Coming into the national team at the age of 29, it might be a chance for Sibanda to make his name and perhaps earn a big move.
Pundits agree that goalkeepers usually get better with age.
In the Warriors camp, Sibanda is looking up to 36-year-old Chipezeze, with him being the best in the succession line based on age.
“I will not be looking much into the Warriors succession plan but my focus is on working hard to always be at my best because I want to represent my nation with class and pride,” he said.
“It is an opportunity and honor to be in the same camp with Chipezeze and Tavaziva…I have always been Chipezeze’s admirer from a distance and here I am always taking notes from him.
“As for Tavaziva, he comes with lessons and experience from abroad so there is also a lot to learn from him.”
“For now I am focusing on learning before I can think about getting the game time . . . so far I am happy and content with the call up and opportunity to camp with the country’s best.”
