IT was the most controversial questions of the year —who is the Zimbabwean artist who has never CHEATED his or her partner?
It came from a social media handle associated with Yahya Vibes.
The post has since been deleted but the controversy it torched is only beginning to gather momentum.
Zimdancehall star Freeman plunged into the debate.
“Ko ukuvhunza chaunga zveku cheater? Asi ukuti vanocheatira pastage vachiimba here?
“Vangazvizivewo kana ndiwevo? Mamweiko nhai, kuti imarriage yanyanyospaka here zvekurasa nyaya husiku?”
Sensing a backlash from her followers, Yahya simply responded with one word: “Goodnight”.
What was clear, though, was that the message did not go down well with many of her followers.
Long after deleting the post, she was still being forced to address the controversy that it torched.
“Dzosa post yewabvisa,” said one of her followers, Gamuchirai Kunaka.
She jokingly answered by saying: “Pane vazoita zvekufona.”
Yahya, who recently married businessman Walter “Ringers” Musanhu, a former professional footballet, appeared to enjoy the engagement with her army of fans.
Another follower, Precious Zhakata, felt Yahya was feeling the heat created by her post:
“Ha but nyaya yabuda pachena.”
Zhakata appeared convinced that Yahya was being “roasted” by her followers.
Another follower said:
“Watonhodzwa na 8kg (Freeman). Aiwa Chirarai Mai Musanhu totangidza makuseni.”
There were some who also liked Freeman’s post, for being candid.
“Vanonzi Doctor Ivavo,” posted Tatenda Ndove.
Another follower, Lizzy Kimlee Black, added:
“Pane abatwa kuti dzvii.”
Some even went to extremes, claiming Freeman seemed to be afraid of being exposed.
They argued that if the debate had been allowed to continue for most of the night, it would have played out differently.
“Kkk atya kufumurwa and pachafumurwa vanhu vakawanda.”
Maybe, Yahya, before her wedding, would not have been forced to delete her post.
Maybe, she would have weathered the storm, without any concern for the backlash, since back then it was all about her.
Things are different now.
She has a husband and she knows that there are no limits on social media and, now and again, she might find herself dragging her husband into the mud.
But, what if we pretend to have been given the freedom by the same Yahya to ask her question to our readers?
What sort of response would we get related to the same question she asked?
Who is or are the artists who have not cheated on their partners in our musical industry?
We can only wonder about the kind of answers we would have received.
