IT’S been a nightmarish two months for the organisers of the Fiesta Fiesta show with the latest blow being the Mother Of All Flops at Alex Sports Club on Saturday night.
Some analysts claim it’s probably the BIGGEST flop, when it comes to outdoor musical events, in the past decade after only a few people turned up for the show dubbed the ‘January Disease Hip Hop Explosion.’
It was always going to be a huge gamble for the organisers given the financial burden which comes with end-of-year commitments and the start of the schools’ season.
However, the organisers, led by DJ Chucknosis, took the risk and it exploded in their face as the WORST crowd for a Fiesta show turned up for what was a big yawn.
It was such a paltry crowd that even estimating the attendance will be a waste of time and the organisers will now be left to count their huge losses.
The cheapest ticket was going for US$10 while the most expensive ticket cost US$20.
They even brought South African rapper BLXCKIE to try and spice up the occasion but it failed to entice fans to come for the show.
“January is not good for such business because disposable income is low and this was a big risk,” said one of the fans who came.
“People are trying to recover from the Xmas and New Year stuff which comes with huge expenses.
“Then, you have the schools and the O-Level results just came out and it means the kids are going back to school again for Form 5.
“All that needs money and to expect people to still have a lot to spend on fun was a bit too much.”
Last month, the organisers were forced to cancel the Fiesta Shutdown Concert which was scheduled for December 30.
They said they wanted to play properly for Saturday’s show which flopped horribly.
There was also outrage among fans over the arrangement by Fiesta Fiesta for fans to collect their refunds in Borrowdale after the cancellation of a show at Alex Sports Club last month.
The show was set to feature South African artist Daliwonga who is said to have missed his flight to Harare.
Fans felt the arrangement for them to collect their refunds in Borrowdale would see them incur more costs and they were being punished for the failure of the organisers.
“After further engagements with our stakeholders, we have decided to cancel the Fiesta Shutdown Concert which was scheduled for December 30 and decided to focus on our January edition,” the organisers said in a statement.
On Saturday, the January edition also FLOPPED badly.
