Israel’s top Rabbi promises to aid Zimbabwe on diamonds

Following a meeting with leaders of local black empowerment lobby group, the Affirmative Action Group (AAG) at his residence, Israel’s Chief Rabbi Shlomo Moshe Amar said he would aid the campaign by asking the country’s government to assist Zimbabwe in its bid to sell the precious mineral.

AAG president Mr Supa Mandiwanzira and secretary-general Mr Tafadzwa Musarara yesterday described the meeting as fruitful.

The Chief Rabbi is to the Jewish people what the Pope is to the Roman Catholics. He is the supreme Halakhic and spiritual authority for the Jewish people in Israel.
“I can confirm that we met the chief rabbi late night on Thursday in Jerusalem and the meeting was special. He is a man revered by the Jewish people across the world but has exceptional humility,” said Mr Mandiwanzira in a telephone interview from Tel Aviv, Israel, Saturday.
