A LOCAL information technology company has donated 10 photocopiers worth over $20 000 to different primary schools countrywide in a partnership deal with learning institutions ahead of implementation of the new education curriculum.
The firm, Konica Minolta, supplies photocopiers, printers and other stationary to schools and has branches in Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru and Masvingo.
The company’s chief executive officer Mr Lawrence Chisango last week presented the photocopying machines at a National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) meeting in Victoria Falls.
He said the idea was to contribute towards implementation of the new education curriculum set to start in January 2017.
“We are coming into the picture at the right time to challenge those who have been shortchanging schools. We want to contribute towards the new education curriculum and ensure that schools can print and copy their learning materials without any hustles,” he said.
Mr Chisango, who works with his wife, Lilian, who is the company’s product support manager, said they will be targeting schools events to identify schools to work with.
“This is our first time to work with Naph although we have made similar gestures with secondary schools. We have a strong corporate social responsibility as we want to develop our schools. We have been to Manama and Matopo High Schools in Matabeleland South,” he said.
A school from each of the 10 provinces has received a photocopying machine, with Bulawayo getting two after Manicaland Province lost out after headmasters from the province bunked the conference to tour resort centres.
“Our recruitment policy is such that we don’t look for degreed people but we want to empower those who have studied technical subjects in school as we want them to learn something so that when the machines breakdown they are there to fix them for you,” he said.
The machines come with a six months free service and free toner.
Cameroon Primary School from Matabeleland North Province, Magwegwe and Gampu primary schools from Bulawayo, Tiger Reef (Midlands), Manama (Matabeleland South), Mthunzi (Mashonaland West), Dzivarasekwa (Harare), Mvurwi in Mashonaland Central and Dandara Primary School in Mashonaland East were the beneficiaries. – @ncubeleon
