Mbeu, Mhodzi, Tribe one and the same.
Born Ashton Nyahora, better known as Mbeu, his musical background is a collegiate jazz and traditional, combined with bold yet scintillating voice that gives his music a harmonious blend of retro and modern most current pop acts often miss the mark on.Having been a member of the group Tsvete before leaving to form his own Mhodzi Tribe under the tutelage of his manager Eugene Museredza, the two have been writing a brilliant piece of history of a mustard seed germinating under a not so easy environment.
While still relatively new to the industry as his own act, there is a calculated professionalism that he eloquently showcases within his recorded work and into his live sets that makes the listener beg for what other tricks he may have up his sleeve.
They say an apple never falls away from the tree and true to the story of the Norton born, a satellite town that boasts of the internationally acclaimed music icon Dr Oliver Mtukudzi whose Pakare Paye Centre played a key role in nurturing many new talent, Mbeu included.
Having attained the name Mbeu from the title of his first recording, a love song well before anyone knew of him and the name easily became his stage name which he gladly accepted without knowing it would resonate with what fate had in store for him.
He has over 100 singles recorded.
His undeniable humility and charisma makes his music tantalising to the ear while grooving to the soul. Mbeu’s jazzy, reggae, traditional tunes combined with the power of live instrumentation demonstrates that pre-recorded modern pop tracks are still capable of translating to a live setting.
He has fast become a darling for many promoters as he never misses a chance to deliver on every stage.
Mbeu’s combination of well-produced singles and a confident live demeanour will make new audiences take notice. He has a new album titled “Handikendenge” set for release today. A preview into some of the tracks on his second offering after “Hatizvimirire” released this year in June proves growing maturity.
Could the new album be too soon or an indication of a failed first project? The response is no! The first album has propelled him to stardom and generated a lot of appetite which he seeks to feed. His management consents that this was part of their grand plot and they will release two albums again next year but reduce to one in 2020.
“We have been part of some major entertainment events in Zimbabwe among them HIFA 2018, Jacaranda Festival 2018 & several Jah Prayzah & Oliver Mtukudzi events all around Zimbabwe,” said Mbeu’s manager Eugene
Having shared the stage with the icons of Zimbabwe’s music industry that include Oliver Mtukudzi, Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Mokoomba and recently finishing a collaboration with a West African artiste which will be released in 2019 together with the video is clear testimony of the type of a seed that he is.
