ITALIAN investors are expected in the country in November to explore business opportunities in different sectors of the economy including tourism, food processing and energy.

In an interview yesterday, Industry and Commerce Minister Cde Mike Bimha who recently attended the Milano Expo 2015 in Italy, said Zimbabwe’s participation at the expo created an opportunity to discuss investment opportunities in the country.

“Our participation at the expo was an eye-opener as we managed to dwell on investment opportunities in the country. A number of people came to our pavilion to learn about the investment opportunities. Many were attracted by the crocodile burger and baobab drink that we exhibited at the pavilion, said Minister Bimha.

He said potential investors also held talks with government officials on proposed joint ventures in areas such as tourism, food processing and energy sectors.

“As a result of our participation at the expo, we expect an Italian business delegation to visit the country by November to explore investment opportunities,” he said.

Cde Bimha said the benefits of their participation at the Milano Expo 2015 were also expected to be felt in the long-term.

“Similar to what happens after the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, we also expect more business linkages with foreign investors to come in the long-term,” he said.

Zimbabwe participated at the Milano Expo 2015 under the theme, “Food Security, Sustainable Development – a Healthy Zimbabwe.”

The expo was attended by a number of countries from across the globe with the objective to market investment opportunities.

The expo, which is held after every five years, attracts millions of people from across the world. This year’s event attracted 145 countries.
