can no longer be played using a regular yellow ball, with the mandatory use of slower red, orange and green balls on the appropriate size of court.
Although the new tennis rule was approved in 2010 at the ITF annual meeting in Washington, it’s only being effected in the country now.
The first category of the game was red ball were the beginners use a red ball and Abbas Mohamed came tops in a recent junior tournament at Harare Sports Club. The second category is the orange ball and was used when Claire Machisa beat Renne Tafumaneyi for the title. Saidova Delafruz won the green ball section while Tsitsi Mahere the runner-up.
The change of rule is a key part of the ITF’s Under-10 development programme, which promotes the use of slower and lower bouncing balls, shorter and lighter rackets as well as smaller courts to make it easier for the young players.
