With a star-studded line up featuring prominent female singers in the country, jazz fans will have an opportunity to sample a diverse line up that would also see unique collaborations during the three days.
Gospel diva Olivia Charamba will bring a different dimension to the jazz fest, when she plays her gospel music among jazz connoisseurs. The jazz festival would not only be about music, but also about beautiful women, blessed with superb voice intonation and good stage presence.
The opening night, which is today, will see divas Patience Musa, Amara Brown, Plaxedes Wenyika, Adiona Chidzonga, Chiwoniso Maraire, and Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana entertaining patrons.
Versatile songstress and mbira player Chiwoniso, Plaxedes, Prudence and Patience will without doubt be the main attractions considering their experience in the industry.
However, that does not mean that upcoming musicians like Amara and Adiona do not have the capacity and the tenacity to rock the crowd. Amara has seen her stocks in the entertainment circles rise and her combination with Chiwoniso is proving to be fruitful for the youthful musician.
However, this could be the litmus test for Adiona, who most people know as Munya Chidzonga’s wife rather than a singer.
She is expected to hold her own, and prove to all that the accolades she bagged during her participation in Idols Southern African 2008, did not come on a silver platter, but were as a result of hard work.
On Saturday, the jazz fiesta will move a notch higher and this time, Jean Masters, Rute Mbangwa, Cindy Munyavi, Queen Mashy, Pamela Zulu, of the group Jabavu and Bulawayo-based singer Sku will rock the party.
The closing night will feature Selmor Mtukudzi, Clare Nyakudjara, Massy, Pauline, and Sandra Ndebele.
Most of the ladies on the night need no introduction, because of their artistic portfolios, which speak volumes of their contribution in the arts sector.
Fans should comfortably find themselves a nice corner to recline on, and let the lady crooners serenade them right into the break of dawn the following day, while enjoying their drinks and music.
It will not a be a jazz fest without a gospel flair, which would be well taken care of by Olivia Charamba, one of Zimbabwe’s renowned gospel singer who would be the guest of honour. She is also expected to impart spiritual words of wisdom, while sharing her experience with the group.
“There will be loads of Robertson wines free for all ladies and we have hired one of the best PA system to make sure that the sound is perfect,” said Josh Hozheri, the organiser of the event.
This year’s women in jazz will be partnering actress and musician Eyahra Mathazia who will take the opportunity to celebrate womanhood with the launch of her beauty range, Eyahra Beauty Workshop.
