GOSPEL music legend Baba Machanic Manyeruke yesterday visited President Mnangagwa at State House to officially advise the nation he was stepping down from actively playing instruments and holding shows.
Baba Manyeruke presented his personal life history book, titled “Kubva Muguruva,” which was penned by Bornwell Choga, to President Mnangagwa.
“I came to see His Excellency, President Mnangagwa, to thank him for the time I had the energy to move around the country playing music,” said Baba Manyeruke.
“I feel that I have done enough and need to stay away from the stage.
“I do not want to continue competing with our younger artistes.
“Ndavekumbozorora chete asi kuzorora hakusi kufa. I will be featuring at some functions when necessary.
“Was happy to be welcomed by His Excellency and his love for my music.”
The 81 year-old music legend told H-Metro he recorded 17 albums.
Ten more albums were not recorded following the closure of Gramma Records.
“I composed a number of songs and some were not recorded, but I am compiling them so that they will be available on the market.
“Ndafara zvikuru nekusangana nemutungamiriri wenyika,” he said.
He said his 271 page book will be available at the National Arts Gallery.
Some of the books, he said, will be donated to various schools and colleges.
