THERE is nothing wrong with amending the Constitution of Zimbabwe for it to respond to the expectations and needs of the citizens, Zanu PF chairman for Mashonaland East Province  Cde Daniel Garwe has said.

He made the remarks while addressing Zanu PF members and supporters during the Chikomba district local authority by-elections campaign rally held in ward 12 in Chivhu over the weekend.

Thousands gathered for the rally,  attended by the party’s provincial executive which include the provincial Secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Tatenda Mavetera and Political Commissar Cde Lincon Matare.

In his address, Cde Garwe said the process of amending the Constitution, in line with the ruling party’s resolutions, is now in motion.

“There is no law that can stop amending the Constitution because it is lawful to do so.

“I am saying this because there are some elements who are saying it is unlawful to amend the Constitution,” he said.

“It is absolutely constitutional to amend your Constitution at any given time because the Constitution is a living document and a living document must respond to the expectations of the people in the community.

“Our expectations are no longer focusing on politics, our expectations are now focused on development, peace and stability of our nation.

“Therefore we need to amend our constitution, to respond to the people’s expectations,” Cde Garwe said.

He went on to say the people expect Zimbabwe to continue rising in terms of  development.

“People want Zimbabwe to continue its development trajectory under the leadership of President Mnangagwa and nothing will stop this from happening.

“Vision 2030 is unstoppable ” he said.

Meanwhile, Cde Garwe also welcomed  returnees from Chikomba district, who were members of CCC, but are now joining ZANU PF.

Among the returnees was former councillor for Ward 9 in Chikomba Rural District Council, Christopher Muchenje as well as Lazarus Mukaro, former Chikomba district youth organising secretary.
