Charamba mourns Brig-Gen Mpabanga

ZIMBABWE’S Ambassador to Zambia Charity Charamba has mourned national hero Brigadier-General (Retired) Samuel Mpabanga who died at Gwanda Provincial Hospital last week.

The national hero served as the Defence Attaché at the Embassy in Zambia between 2016 and 2022.

In her message, Amb Charamba said she, together with Zimbabwe’s Embassy staff had been saddened by the national hero’s death.

“Brig-Gen (Rtd) Mpabanga served in Zambia with distinction. He was a dedicated veteran of the liberation struggle ,who fought  for Independence in Zambia and  later posted to the same country.”

During his tenure as Defence Attaché, she said, Brig-Gen (Rtd) Mpabanga represented Zimbabwe Defence Forces with distinction.

“He built excellent relations with Zambia’s Defence Forces, which culminated in consolidation of relations and cooperation under the Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security, between our two sister Republics,” she said.

“As part of his responsibilities he oversaw the management and  upkeep of  Zimbabwean shrines and coordinated all visits to the shrines some where our heroes and heroines are buried.”

Ambassador Charamba added that Brig-Gen Mpabanga (Rtd) executed his duties with passion and a deep sense of commitment and patriotism.

“He cultivated  excellent relations with communities around the areas where our departed Heroes and Heroines are laid.

“The National Hero was soft spoken,a true patriot of the soil. He raised the Zimbabwe flag high. We will truly miss him.

“On behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe to the Republic of Zambia and indeed on my own behalf I wish to express our deepest condolences to the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr Mnangagwa and the First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, Mrs Mpabanga and the entire Mpabanga family, the Government and people of the Republic of Zimbabwe on the sad loss of our National hero. We mourn with the  family and pray for God’s strength during this difficult period,” she said.
