IT appears Ngezi Platinum Stars’ challenges are way deeper than the previous technical staff, headed by Benjani Mwaruwari.
The Undertaker was sacked after a string of poor results.
While results were not encouraging under Benjani, things appear to have become worse under interim coach Takesure Chiragwi.
For instance, Benjani was mocked for a 0-3 away defeat to Herentals in Harare.
However, Chiragwi was handed a 1-2 loss, by the Students, at home on Saturday.
Chiragwi has now suffered back-to-back losses.
The 1-2 defeat by Herental, in the Chibuku Super Cup first round over the weekend, underlined the depth of Ngezi’s current challenges.
Almost 80 percent of the players, who guided the team to last season’s final, which they lost to FC Platinum, were in the Matchday team against Herentals.
But, the Students proved too good.
The tournament’s Golden Boot winner, last season, Bruno Mtigo, has performed way below par, in the current campaign.
Denver Mukamba is struggling to tick all the boxes.
Ngezi need to overhaul their squad.
Benjani left without signing any player from outside the Ngezi stable.
The executive backed his gamble of blooding youngsters.
But, when it was time to trust the process, the backroom staff didn’t give him the support he needed.
The inclusion of Tapiwa Mandinyenya and Farai Madhananga has not breathed life into the team’s nightmarish campaign.
Their strike force has not been sharp and the club’s leading scorer, Delic Murimba, is on six goals.
Their defensive frailties have also been ruthlessly exploited.
