adminback and feeling great. As usual during my break it was pure fun — I spent time with my family, friends and relatives.
In between, I would check out what was happening on the small screen. The beauty of going on leave is that you have enough time to familiarise yourself with different programmes on television and guess what I did just that.
But watching the same programmes and channels isn’t the best thing to do. So to break the monotony a friend of mine who lives in the same neighbourhood one day invited me to his house.
He doesn’t watch DStv or free-to-air channels like I do but he instead watches Top TV, another pay per view satellite television. I didn’t realise how much competition DStv had until I watched Top TV though I still feel DStv “has got so much more”.
Apparently DStv have successfully expanded their bouquet and for those who subscribe to the premium bouquet they have a whole lot of of stuff to watch.
And this is where I think they beat Top TV left, right and centre except for a few programmes with regards to sport and news.
So when I went to my friend’s house I got to feel what Top TV has in store and I liked the fact that it is different to what we watch on DStv.
For instance, on DStv there are about five or so music channels, namely Trace, Channel O, MTV Base, VHI Classic, Afro Pop and Gospel but on Top TV there is KISS and the most vibrant one which is BET.
From the look of it I think BET beats all the music channels especially for its diverse programmes and shows.
I mean what more can you expect when you tune in to 106&Park where they feature all the Hollywood celebs live in the studio or Sunday Best, a gospel show presented by Kirk Franklin and stars Donnie McClurkin as one of the judges.
From the time I watched BET I never wanted to miss a minute of it. Well, perhaps it was because I was getting used to DStv.
Well, during my leave DStv gave us a real treat by bringing the James Bond 007 festival. I enjoyed it so much and surprisingly I hate sequels but on this one I loved every movie.
Debate has always been on who among the Bond actors was the best? Was it Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Tim Dalton, Pierce Brosnan or Daniel Craig?
I also noted how each Bond used women to get their job done I guess this is what you see in every flick of this British super spy thriller.
Before I forget, this past week ESPN on DStv Channel 230 screened a programme dedicated to David Beckham, as he prepares to depart the MLS five years after joining the US’ top football league.
Titled “Beckham’s Goodbye to Hollywood”, the show took an in-depth look back at the midfielder’s time in Los Angeles and discuss his impact on Major League Soccer.
Beckham spoke to ESPN’s Julie Foudy, while host Adrian Healey was joined by a number of guests providing insight and commentary, including: ESPN’s MLS analyst Taylor Twellman, who played against Beckham during his own MLS career; former USA international Alexi Lalas, who was instrumental in bringing Beckham to LA while serving as LA Galaxy’s general manager in 2007; as well as former New England Revolution coach, ex-Liverpool and Scotland star, and Press Pass pundit Steve Nicol.
The show was presented live from LA Galaxy’s stadium, the Home Depot Centre, where the MLS Cup Final was played.
