CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe says his men know they are plunging into their biggest battle of the season in the Harare Derby on Sunday.
Although the Green Machine have already battled champions, FC Platinum, and were unlucky not to pick a win, after a diabolical refereeing call in a 1-1 draw, Chitembwe says the Derby is bigger.
Even the gate charges are different and fans will pay US$3 for the cheapest ticket rather than the normal US$2.
He is a veteran of the intense battles between the capital’s two biggest clubs, both as a coach and a player.
Chitembwe’s men are in high spirits as they are yet to lose a game.
They are the leaders of the championship race with 12 points — four clear of their rivals, who have a game in hand.
The Green Machine defence has only been breached once by that controversial goal scored from an off-side position by Perfect Chikwende of FC Platinum.
“We’re expecting a very difficult match,” said Chitembwe.
“Dynamos players are professionals and are able to forget one bad performance and put their focus on good performances.
“We expect to play a very spirited and focused Dynamos and this is how we will be preparing as it is probably going to be our biggest match this season so far.
“Bragging rights are for the fans, for the coaches and players it’s about performances and to try and make sure we win matches.
“The most important thing, as far as we are concerned, is the application on match day and the preparation before the match day.”
He said his focus was very clear.
“As a coach, I am concerned about performances and winning matches.
“When the team performs, we stand a very good chance of scoring, at the moment I am happy as we have control of our matches.
“Our match-winning ratio is making us satisfied.
“Being unbeaten is just an endorsement of our processes as a football team. It gives us a reason to continue working as it gives us confidence in what we will be doing.
“The club is doing fine and the team is also doing well.”
