Ephraim Patai has promised fans a new album before year end saying it will open a new chapter in his music career.
The Voice of Prophecy leader who is now based in Namibia said the upcoming album will surpass the success of his chart topper “Rumbidzwai” from which the hit “Mazambara” was taken.
“It is about time I release a bombshell. I’m working on my comeback album which should be out anytime this year. The album is dedicated to my fans that have supported me since the first album and my promise is that I won’t let them down,” he said.
Patai who sings together with his wife Respina said the couple was working on a fresh sound that should excite gospel lovers.
“As you might be aware we were among the first groups to take vapostori music to greater heights and we are hoping to continue with the same style of music so that gospel music is appreciated by all and sundry,” Patai said.
Of late, Patai had to fight rumours that did the rounds claiming that he was a traditional healer. However, Patai scoffed at the reports saying that they were coming from people bent on causing confusion.
“This is totally unjustified statement from people who are bent on creating confusion. The truth is when we started to hit the airwaves through gospel music we were members of the Apostolic church and people used to watch us on television as well as at live shows.
“At times we would put on white robes which are popularly known as magamenzi. It was during those days when I was a preacher. I was also ‘munamatiri wevanhu uye mududziri wehope nechiprofita chete kwete traditional doctor but Faith Healer ikoko’. I guess that is when all these allegations started. But as I have already said, its water under the bridge. I am a born again Christian who is an ardent follower of pentacostral church. Chisikwa chitsva mumba maJehovah,” he told The Herald Entertainment.
It has been nine years since he released an album but Patai remains confident that he still has what it takes to make it in the industry considering that he has been in touch with trends from other countries.
He left Zimbabwe in 2005 and settled in Namibia where he says his music is popular in the
Caprive region from where he operates. Now members of the UFIC, the group which hails from Gweru has been quiet for the past nine years during which time some of its key band members enrolled at Mt Hermon Theology School.
Made up of husband and wife, the Voice of Prophecy, was credited with raising the profile of gospel music, hitherto regarded as a solemn genre, to one of the most popular forms of entertainment and spiritual healing. The group made a huge splash on the music scene with their third release titled “Rumbidzwai” in 2005 which caused quite a stir on the airwaves.
