PETROS Mhari feels 10 years is long enough for a goalkeeper to stay at one club.
That is the reason he is leaving FC Platinum to explore challenges elsewhere.
“It’s not like I have retired from playing football, but it’s just that I feel like I have to play somewhere for two or three seasons before I throw in the towel,” he told Zimpapers Sports.
“It was the most difficult thing to do and entertaining a thought of leaving a club which has changed my life was just unbearable.
“But, sometimes you have to be strong and it’s something which was not motivated by anyone at the club but it was a decision which was made by my family.”
He added:
“When I shared my next move with my teammates, they were all affected, they all felt that it was not necessary.
“I respected how they felt and it was also difficult to explain the same thing to coach (Norman) Mapeza because he has been more like a father to me in my career.
“I owe him a lot and I have nothing but respect for him because he shaped my life and career.”
Mapeza gave Mhari a chance to play at the 2021 AFCON finals in Cameron.
The keeper joined the miners at the age of 24 and he is now leaving at 34.
The former Hwange keeper has been guarding FC Platinum’s goalposts for the last decade.
He has four Castle Lager Premiership championship medals and over 300 appearances to his name.
Gift Bello is another of the team’s veterans who is leaving FC Platinum.
Bello announced that he was going to call it quits after this campaign.
